Historic Tulips is a folio of etchings documenting historic blooms from Bayntun Flowers, organic growers of rare and unusual flowers cultivated in a series of walled gardens and a one-acre field at the foot of the Marlborough Downs in Wiltshire, England. Polly Nicholson holds the National Collection of Historic Tulips with over 75 cultivars dating back to the 16th century at her garden at Blackland Park.
Fourteen etchings were drawn on site at Bayntun Flowers in Whiltshire, England on copper plates and then etched and printed by Sarah Horowitz on Zerkall wove paper upon her return home. Polly Nicholson graciously hosted the visit, project, and has written the introduction. Arthur Larson of Horton Tank Graphics printed the text in Scotch Modern types. Julia Weese-Young boxed the set in a plum clamshell box lined with marbled paper by Iris Nevis. The edition is a small deluxe creation numbering fifteen. This project was created and designed by Sarah Horowitz in Leavenworth, Washington.
